A plain-English guide to Stripe Connect: what it is, why Bookiphy uses it, and exactly what it means for your club's money, payouts and control.
In short
Bookiphy takes online payments through Stripe Connect, Stripe's system for platforms like ours that need to move money safely to lots of separate businesses.
In practice, that means:
- You get paid into your own Stripe account, not a Bookiphy account.
- Bookiphy never holds your money, funds flow directly to you.
- Stripe pays out to your bank on a fast payout schedule that you control.
- You stay in full control of your payments, payouts and refunds at all times.
This article explains what Stripe Connect is, how it fits with Bookiphy, and what it means for you day to day.
What is Stripe Connect?
Stripe is one of the world's most trusted payment processors, handling card payments securely for millions of businesses. Stripe Connect is a specific part of Stripe built for platforms; software like Bookiphy that serves many independent businesses, each of which needs to get paid into their own account.
Rather than collecting everyone's money into one big central pot and then redistributing it, Stripe Connect lets a platform link each business to its own Stripe account. When a customer pays, the money is processed by Stripe and settled into the right business's account directly. The platform handles the booking and the software experience; Stripe handles the money and the security.
For a kids' activity club, that distinction matters enormously. It means the platform you use to take bookings is never sitting in the middle of your cash flow. Your income is yours, in your account, under your control.
Why Bookiphy chose Stripe Connect
We built Bookiphy on Stripe Connect deliberately, because of what it means for the club owners and academies we serve:
Your money stays yours. Payments settle into your own Stripe account. Bookiphy never holds, pools or controls your funds, there's no middleman sitting between you and your earnings.
Faster access to your income. Because money goes straight to your Stripe account, you're paid out to your bank on a fast, regular schedule rather than waiting for a platform to release funds to you.
Bank-grade security and compliance. Stripe handles card data, fraud checks, and the heavy lifting of payment security and regulatory compliance (including PCI DSS), so you don't have to.
Transparency. You can see every payment, payout, refund and fee in your own Stripe dashboard, alongside the booking-level detail inside Bookiphy.
Trusted, global infrastructure. Stripe supports a wide range of card types and payment methods, with the reliability of one of the largest payment networks in the world.
How the integration works, step by step
Getting set up is straightforward. Here's what the journey looks like:
- You connect a Stripe account to Bookiphy. During setup, you link your Stripe account to your Bookiphy account. If you don't already have a Stripe account, you'll be guided through creating one; it's free to open.
- A parent books and pays. When a parent books a class, camp, subscription or any other session through Bookiphy, they're taken through a secure Stripe-powered checkout.
- Stripe processes the payment. Stripe securely handles the card details, runs its fraud and security checks, and processes the transaction.
- The money settles into your Stripe account. Funds go directly to your own connected Stripe account, not to Bookiphy.
- Fees are applied transparently. Bookiphy's flat 2.1% platform fee and Stripe's own processing fee are applied to the transaction, so you always know exactly what each payment costs. (For the full breakdown, see our guide to Bookiphy's payment processing fees.)
- Stripe pays out to your bank. On your chosen payout schedule, Stripe transfers your balance from your Stripe account to your bank account.
Throughout, Bookiphy keeps your bookings, registers, subscriptions and communications in sync — while Stripe quietly handles the money behind the scenes.
